Jimi ‘the human’ Hocking
The young Jimi Hocking first appeared on the airwaves in the mid 1980’s
in his band The Astros, mixing Rock and Jazz with his exuberant guitar style.
But Jimi was fascinated with many musical styles and was also writing
and releasing contemporary folk (originally on cassette!) & blues, alongside his brand of fusion rock.
His reputation with the guitar led to stints with The Angels, Swanee, Chelsea Brown, The Coasters & Chris Jagger.
His 1990 album as Jimi the Human went top 20 on the national chart and he found himself touring with Edgar Winter, George Thorogood and Joe Satriani.
By 1993 Jimi was headhunted into The Screaming Jets and is the band longest serving guitarist, recording the next 6 albums, including the 2024 number 1 rock album, Professional Misconduct.
However in 1998 during some down time, Jimi recorded the album Blue Guitar as a labor of love, which led to blues gigs and festivals… and trips to NYC to play in the house band at Terra Blues.
In 2005 Jimi won the International Blues Challenge in Memphis TN, one of only three musicians outside the USA to win the award. So recently Jimi, Fiona Boyes & Frank Sultana got together to celebrate, performing as The Memphis Three.
It is with great pleasure that Jimi is able to find time in his schedule and join the bill at Echuca Winter Blues Festival 2025 to perform with his band Jimi Hocking’s Blues Machine.
